The West Genesee Wildcats have a rich tradition of lacrosse on their side, but this year the girls team also has 16 seniors on it's side. While that deep roster has a lot of experience and talent going for it, the opposition is taking notive of one particular senior so far this season. Erica Geremia is this week's CNYCentral Athlete, someone who always seems to stand out with her play, even in practice when she's making moves against her own teammates.
"I'm definitely one of the people my defenders look out (for)," admits Geremia, "and want to (get) me out on the field even if I'm their own teammate. Because I'm always the one going to the cage at practice."
"Erica has played hard every day in practice," says Wildcats Head Coach Bob Elmer, "she's been a leader with her hustle, and it's proven out on the field because she's getting the job done out on the filed so I'm proud of her so far."
Geremia already has ten goals on the season, including 5 in one game against Honeoye Falls-Lima this past Monday. The successful senior admits it helps being able to play with all those senior stars like Kara Detellas and Emily Tripodi.
"W e really do all work hard, " says Geremia, " there's never a day that someone walks off the field (and says like) that was an easy practice. Either someone is hurt or someone is bruised up by somebody by one of our defenders."
"They've been great leaders, we play really hard, they get hurt a lot in practice because they're playing so hard and it really helps the team."
