The Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce their decision to induct the 1983-1984 West Genesee Boys Lacrosse squads as this yearâ??s Team of Honor. These two teams will be recognized for their outstanding achievements at the 27th Annual Hall of Fame Dinner which will take place on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 7pm at Drumlins Country Club.
The 1983-1984 West Gennesee Boyâ??s Lacrosse teams were coached by the legendary Hall of Famer â?? Mike Messere. Coach Mike Messere was already inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, and is now heading into his 39th season as the Wildcats head coach. â??These two teams exemplify what lacrosse teamwork is all aboutâ??, said Messere.
Messere was also inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame this year.
The 1983 Wildcats won the State Championship with a 20-0 record, while the â??84 stickmen went 23-1 â?? losing in the State Championship to Yorktown by a single goal. Many of these players from both of these extraordinary teams went on to achieve additional successes including earning All-American honors in college, becoming successful lacrosse coaches, and even making it as professional lacrosse players themselves. Members of the 1983-84 teams include Tim Delaney, John Wurzburger, Phil Willard, John McAuliffe, Jim Lyons, Dave Connelly, Gerry Gutches, Brian Keith, Jeff McNeill, Steve Scaramussino, and Rob Wurzburger.
Tullyâ??s Good Times will be sponsoring the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony for the third consecutive year. â??We are glad to be associated with an organization that recognizes both team and individual athletic achievement in our community,â?? said Tullyâ??s Good Times Owner, John Giamartino.
