Henninger, Cazenovia among final teams punching tickets to semifinals

Keisean Scott runs in for a touchdown against Baldwinsville on Saturday

It took a comeback and overtime, but the Henninger Black Knights avenged a loss to the Baldwinsville Bees earlier in the season on Saturday with a 26-20 win in the first round of the Class AA Sectional Playoffs.

The Black Knights, the fourth seed, got off to a sluggish start against the fifth seeded Bees. Ricky Sparks started the scoring in the first quarter with a 1 yard run into the end zone to put Baldwinsville up 7-0.

Then, the Bees' Gage Blasi connected with Cameron Skipworth for a 37 yard touchdown pass. Baldwinsville would miss the extra point but be up 13-0 after the first quarter.

Henninger would respond in the second quarter with touchdowns from Keisean Scott and Romero Collier to tie the game at 13 at the half. Cameron Skipworth would strike again for the Bees in the third, dashing for a 29 yard touchdown to give the Bees a 20-13 lead.

But in the fourth, the Black Knights would tie the game when Collier would air out an 80 yard touchdown pass to Tiqaun Simpkins. After regulation ended with the two teams tied at 20, Collier would get the Black Knights the win in overtime when he connected with Justin McCann for the go ahead touchdown and put Henninger up for good.

Henninger advances to play top ranked Fayetteville-Manlius Friday, November 1st. Venue and kickoff time are to be announced.

In Class B, the Cazenovia Lakers kept the momentum from their dominant regular season into the first round of the Sectional playoffs, defeating Cortland 43-0 on Saturday.

Dan Phillips ran for three touchdowns for the Lakers. Noah King and Kevin Hopsicker each added two touchdowns of their own for Cazenovia.

The Lakers will face Marcellus next Friday, November 1st in the next round of the Sectional playoffs. Time and venue are to be announced.
