High School basketball teams charge towards playoffs with one week to go in season

It's hard to believe, but we're one week away from the high school basketball playoffs.

With that said, teams are fighting for the best seeds and hopefully for them, home court advantage.

It's fitting, that in the last week of the season we had a game featuring the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the Central New York High School Media Poll.

#1 C-NS hosted #2 West Genesee in Cicero tonight, and the Northstars proved why they are #1 in the poll with a 52-38 victory. The Northstars have four losses on the season, but those came early, and to teams from outside Central New York.

On the boys side, there's no team playing better than the Westhill Warriors.

Westhill is ranked #1 locally, and #1 in all of New York State!

The Warriors asserted that dominance again on Tuesday, defeating a good team in Bishop Grimes 74-42. Tyler Reynolds scored 25 points to lead the way for the Warriors.

Bishop Ludden may have dipped to #10 in New York for Class A schools, but the Gaelic Knights care primarily about their ranking at the end of March.

That said, the Gaelic Knights bounced back from a loss to Westhill with an 88-53 win over Fowler. Zach Walser led the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
