The Westhill Warriors finally broke through last season as Class B Section III Champions. This year its a new team, but one that wants to keep the winning tradition going.
The message isn't about defending the title, it's more so about the 2010 team wanting to make its own mark in the Warrior history books. One look at the Westhill training camp and you can see that's what its all about. Coach Gary Griffo admits the team didn't come out as sharp as he would've liked but like other teams in the past, this year's bunch just took a little longer to grasp everything.
Things won't be easy for the Warriors. Not only will every team they play be gunning for them since they are defending champs, but the Class B slate looks extremely tough this season, especially the opening game against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, a team that saw its sectional dreams ended by Westhill last year. Coach Griffo says V-V-S could be tops in the league this season.
Still, the Warriors are a confident bunch and as per the rich tradition on Onondaga Boulevard, you can absolutely expect Westhill to have a say in things when the season is all said and done.
