High School Preview: Canastota

The Canastota Raiders are after a Section III Championship, and 2010 could be the year they finally capture it. The school has never won a Section III Title, which is certainly no easy feat in Class C with teams like Bishop Ludden, Cazenovia, and General Brown among several others looming. Canastota boasted an impressive 4-1 record in league play last season, they finished 5-3 overall after falling to then-undefeated Cooperstown in the Section III playoffs.

That taste of the post season no doubt, has left the returning players hungry for more, it's easy to say winning it all is the goal, but when you look in the faces of the players on this team you can tell they are all business this season. The seniors want to go out on a high note, the highest in school history, and forever cement their graduating class in the history books in Canastota, adding one more title to "title town" alongside all of the boxing greats enshrined.

With that said, the team can't wait to start the quest for that goal Friday night when they host Sherburne-Earlville. "This is my Christmas" says Raiders 7th year Head Coach Eric Van Slyke "I get two to three months of this, and I can't wait" he added.
