At the end of Saturday morning's practice for the Cicero-North Syracuse football team, I asked Head Coach Steve Ellis to talk about the strong point of his team. He looked, at me and said "the team". Before I could even wonder what he meant he followed the statement up by saying "It's never going to be about one guy, and this team was great at it last year, probably one of the better teams I've had as a coach and I really hope these guys are going to follow suit with that, pick each other up, be there for each other and really be most concerned about the win".
That is absolutely the mindset at the Northstars camp this August, and it will be put to the test right away, the team opens the 2010 campaign on the road at CBA. It's not just a saying that the team is going by, even just a few minutes taking in a practice and its obvious that these guys are about the team. When coaches asked for volunteers on a special teams drill it didn't take longer than a couple seconds to fill out the 11 guys needed on the field.
The Northstars finished with an overall record of 4-4 last year, and no doubt the all for one mentality will serve them well as they hope to win a Section III crown for the first time in team history.
