Ithaca, Jamesville-Dewitt, and Homer advance to state semifinals

Central New York has a representative in all classes for the New York State Semifinals, but only two are from Section III.

That's because the Ithaca Little Red, from Section IV defeated Liverpool from Section III 18-8 on Saturday, punching their ticket to the "Final Four" for the fourth year in a row. Liverpool scored the first goal of the game after Nick Kline won the opening face off and raced down the field for the goal. Ithaca though, scored often after that, en route to the 10-goal win. The loss though, doesn't sour a sweet Section III title that the Warriors enjoyed for the first time in nearly a quarter century.

In Class B, J-D got a run for its money from Vestal, as only one goal separated the two champions for most of the game. Eventually though, thanks in part to five goals from reigning CNY Central Athlete Deke Burns, the Red Rams prevailed 11-8

In Class C, Homer continued its magical run all the way to the semifinals, defeating Salmon River 12-8. The Trojans opened up an 11-6 lead before the Shamrocks closed the gap to just three. Homer was able to hold them off, and captured the Class C regional title.

All of today's winners play in the semifinals Wednesday at C-NS.

In Girls lacrosse CBA and West Genesee advanced to the state semifinals, which will be held next Friday at SUNY Cortland.
