J-D's 9-run 5th inning propels Red Rams past CBA in Section 3 Title Game

J-D celebrates after scoring in the 5th inning on Thursday

The J-D Red Rams used a nine-run fifth inning to take down CBA 11-1 in the Class A Section 3 title game on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. The Red Rams advance to the state regional playoff game on June 6th at OCC.

Before the fifth inning, it was a close battle, with every pitch holding importance. RBIs from Alex Way and Tom Canfield gave the Red Rams a 2-0 lead in the second inning, a lead they'd keep until the fifth. J-D would load the bases in that deciding inning, and keep them loaded as they scored several runs. Paul Fitzgibbons pushed the first run across the plate to make the score 3-0, and then, with the bases still loaded, several walks and hits followed. 14 batters came to the plate, with score being 11-0 when CBA finally recorded the third out.

It's J-D's first sectional baseball title in 11 years.

In Class B, Frankfort-Schuyler pushed the first two runs across the board in the first inning, but Clinton responded, scoring seven in the first inning alone, then six later on in the fifth inning. Clinton would go on to win their second straight Class B title 14-7.
