Jackowski and Knapp look to lead LaFayette to new heights
This week's CNY Central Athletes are on a mission.
Cassley Jackowski and Shannon Knapp are seniors for the LaFayette girls basketball team.
Sure, they've accomplished impressive individual honors like Jackowski's passing of the 1,000 points barrier. But now they want to create history for LaFayette.
The girls basketball program at LaFayette never made it to the Section III playoffs before three years ago. Coincidentally, upon the dynamic duo's arrival the Lancers program made it to its first Sectional playoff game and has done so 3 times since.
Now, it's onto a new goal.
Despite those three berths in the playoffs the Lancers have never won a playoff game, now the mission as these two seniors exit the program is to deliver that much needed win.
And can you blame them? Knapp and Jackowski have been playing together for nearly their entire lives, so it would be a perfect ending to their high school careers to accomplish such a feat.
"We just try to lead by example. We have experience, we have been on the team for a while now helping the younger kids that just got here" says Knapp.
Jackowski added to that saying "We work really well together. We've been playing with each other since we were really young. It's cool we stuck with it throughout the years".
That playoff game is actually Friday night. LaFayette travels to nearby Onondaga Central for a 7 o clock tipoff. The Lancers are the 6 seed and Onondaga is the 3 seed.
