Jamesville-Dewitt is one step closer to a State Championship after win over Franklin Academy
The Jamesville-DeWitt Red Rams Girls basketball team defeats Section X champion Franklin Academy 50-44 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A regional semifinal.
The Red Rams used clutch shooting from the free throw line, going 22-for-26 from the charity stripe, in addition to its lock down defense holding the Huskies without a field goal the final four minutes of the third period. J-Dâ??s pressure defense also caused 21 turnovers. Most notably was Meg Hairâ??s steal and last second left-handed layup to end the third period. With Jamesville-DeWitt clinging to just a two point lead, Hairâ??s steal seemed to give the Red Rams the motivation they needed.
J-D was led by three players in double figures. Carley Oâ??Hern led both teams in points with 17 along with four rebounds. Alyssa Robens was a force on defense with four blocks and contributed with 12 points. Meg Hair played well on both sides of the ball scoring 12 points, pulling in five rebounds and picking the Huskiesâ?? pocket with five steals.
Jamesville-DeWitt advances to 20-2 on the season and will play in the New York State Quarterfinal at OCC on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 7:30pm.
