Liverpool softball ends C-NS' title streak, Solvay wins 2nd in a row

Liverpool celebrates in a cloud of dust as they beat C-NS for the Class AA title on Monday

The Liverpool Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to beat C-NS 2-1, winning the Class AA Title. The Warriors snap the North Stars four-year sectional title winning streak in the process.

It was C-NS who held a 1-0 lead in the 6th inning, but Liverpool would threaten. With runners on second and third, Peyton Bellrose hit a long sac fly to centerfield, the runner on third sprinted for home and scored making it 1-1, but the Warrior on second left the bag too early, ending the inning and the threat.

The two squads would remain deadlocked at 1-1 past the regulation 7 innings and go into the ninth still tied 1-1. In the bottom of the 9th, Liverpool loaded the bases with one out. Katie Yudin hit a short fly ball to right field, Alicia Hansen hesitated at first, thinking she would get thrown out. But, the throw came into home plate over the head of the catcher, and Hansen sprinted for home, scoring the winning run. With the 2-1 victory, the Warriors will go up against Bethlehem in the state regionals on Friday.

In Class A, New Hartford and Oneida played an interesting 5 innings until lightning delayed their finish until Tuesday. At one point, New Hartford had what looked like a 2-0 lead on a Dana Del Genio 2-run double, but both runs were taken off the board when it was ruled the Spartan runner did not touch third on her way to home plate. But, in the very next inning, New Hartford would score two runs before the lightning came. The two squads will continue the game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Gillette Road Park.

In Class B, Solvay scored early and often against Adirondack, including a 2-run Chelsie Delpurto homerun, winning 11-3. It's the Bearcats second straight Section 3 Title.
