Onondaga has the best- both local squads in Babe Ruth championship game
It started with eight teams from several states throughout the northeast all vying for a Babe Ruth regional championship.
And in the end, the two squads from Onondaga County are the last ones standing.
The Onondaga West team, compiled of the older high school players went undefeated and finds itself in the regional championship on Sunday.
The Onondaga West team, which is filled with younger players from Onondaga County lost to Onondaga West on the first day of playoffs Thursday but hasn't dropped another decision since and now finds itself in a rematch with its local counterpart for the championship on Sunday.
If the West team wins the showdown of Central New York's finest on Sunday at noon at Hopkins Road field in Liverpool, then they advance to the Babe Ruth World Series. If the East team wins that 12 o'clock matchup then another game between the two teams will be played, that game will be "winner take all"
The Onondaga West team punched its ticket to the title game with an 8-1 victory over the New Jersey team Saturday afternoon. The East squad beat Pennsylvania 4-3 with a walk-off single from Hector Santa and took out New Jersey in the nightcap 9-6 to make it to the title game.
In that first matchup between the teams on Thursday, the West team defeated the East 9-2.
