The Henninger Black Knights avenged an early season home loss to the Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets on Friday night, winning 58-54 in F-M's home gym.
The game was tight throughout, with F-M clinging to a one-point 32-31 lead at halftime. The Hornets started the second half hot, leading 41-33, only to have the Black Knights rattle off a run of their own, taking a 44-43 lead going into the final quarter.
F-M's sharpshooter John Schurman, who finished with 17, scored five straight points to give the Hornets a 50-48 lead with less than four minutes to play. But, after the two teams exchanged baskets, Romero Collier hit a three pointer to give Henninger the 55-54 lead. Collier finished with 14.
The Hornets missed with their final two possessions, and the Black Knights iced the game away, going 3-4 from the free throw line in the final minute. Marquane Silvers led all scorers with 18 points. In the loss F-M point guard Jake Wittig finished with 16.
