Repeat! Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball wins New York State Title again
It was an absolute thriller from start to finish, and in the end it's a result Central New Yorkers can be proud of.
The Jamesville-DeWitt Red Rams Girls Basketball team is the best Class A team in New York State, winning a thriller over Pittsford-Mendon from Rochester 48-46.
Star Meg Hair was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and it's the second straight New York State Championship for J-D.
The Red Rams trailed most of the first half, before putting on a furious rally to capture the lead in the third quarter.
While Pittsford-Mendon would make J-D sweat a bit, the Red Rams never gave up their lead.
Down 30-29, J-D made free throws to take a one point lead. Jamie Boeheim would score on emphatic old fashioned three point play to extend the lead to four.
The Rams would score six more unanswered, part of a 12-0 run to forge a 40-30 lead late in the third capped off by a Momo LaClair three pointer from the baseline.
Pittsford-Mendon would rally, getting within a point several times before J-D showed composure at the end to win it.
LaClair made a free throw with less than 30 seconds to go to give J-D a 48-46 lead.
Pittsford-Mendon would have the ball with 13 seconds left and a chance to tie or win the game, J-D had a foul to give and used it with 3 seconds left.
With one last chance, J-D's defense was stifling, stopping three Pittsford-Mendon attempts to tie the game in as many seconds to win.
Hair led J-D with 12 points while Julia Kelner scored 11. Jamie Boeheim and LaClair each scored seven.
