Saturday high school hoops and wrestling

ready for the match

The Jamesville-DeWitt High School boys basketball team is #1 in New York State for good reason. The Red Rams have battled the best of the best in the state, and so far they TMve escaped without a loss.

That theme repeated itself on Saturday night, as J-D outran the #10 team in the state, Shenendehowa, 74-57. Sophomore Sensation DaJuan Coleman scored 18 points and snagged 15 rebounds in the winning effort. Senior leader Lamar Kearse scored 17 points.

The Red Rams led by 12 at the halftime break, before Shenendehowa closed the gap to seven. The comeback served as a wake up call as the Red Rams stormed away from there en route to the victory.

J-D TMs game was the nightcap in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Onondaga Community College. LaFayette topped Fabius-Pompey 57-43, Bishop Grimes won earlier in the day over Hannibal, and Marcellus topped Skaneateles in double overtime 63-56. Will Fiacchi led the Mustangs with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

In girls basketball Bishop Grimes faced a very tough non-conference opponent in Nazareth. The game was back and forth throughout, but the Lady Cobras eventually won the contest 53-51.

For high school wrestling, the top dual meet squads in Section III squared off, and in the end it was Fulton, South Jefferson, and LaFayette all earning big wins.
