Section III Athletics honors nearly 150 student athletes

Oneida Softball won the 2014 Class A Championship

It's a prime example of why Central New York's sports scene is always vibrant and exciting.

Section III held its Scholar Athlete Awards Dinner on Monday night, honoring 147 student athletes from 74 different area schools.

The schools vary in all sorts of sizes from Owen D. Young's graduating class of 12 to Cicero-North Syracuse's hundreds of graduates but there's one common thread here:

All the athletes honored are just as incredible in the classroom as they are on the playing field.

Many of the student athletes honored have GPA's above a 96%, some are even north of 99%.

By the time the event at the SRC arena on OCC's campus was over, all the student athletes walked away with a commemorative plaque, and others even earned scholarship money.

All in all, more than 40 local student athletes have signed letters-of-intent to Division I institutions in various sports.
