Section III softball crowns five champions on Saturday

J-D celebrates second straight section III title

Section III softball teams played in their respective championships on Saturday.

In Class AA, C-NS shutout Liverpool 5-0, winning the Class AA Sectional Title. Sydney Oâ??Hara allowed just three hits and struck out 13 in the win. C-NS starts the state tournament on Tuesday against Section IIâ??s Guilderland. That game will be played at Gillette Park in Cicero at 4:30 p.m.

In Class A, J-D pitcher Kerri Keeler helped her own cause, hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning, which was then followed by a two-run blast by Alyssa Robens.

"I thought it was just going to be a pop up...I thought I was out," Keeler said. "It was actually kind of high and inside, and I did not hit well at all last game, it felt so good to hit that, and I think it got everyone pumped."

J-D went on to win 3-0 over Oneida, their second straight section title. They will play Section IIâ??s Troy on Monday at Gillette Park in Cicero. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

In Class B, undefeated Solvay was all over Holland Patent, winning the Section Title 12-0. The Bearcats now play Section IVâ??s Windsor on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Gillette Park in Cicero.

In Class C, Cooperstown tried to come back with four runs in the 6th inning, but Sandy Creekâ??s six runs were enough, earning them the 6-4 win and the Section III Class C title. Sandy Creek plays Section IVâ??s Seton Catholic at 5 p.m. in Binghamton.

In Class D, Hamilton beat Stockbridge Valley 6-3 to with the Class D Section Title. Hamilton plays Section Xâ??s Heuvelton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Gillette Park.
