Syracuse Academy of Science hosts benefit for biggest fan

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 23:28:34 GMT — As the Syracuse Academy of Science men's basketball team tipped off the season on their home court, one of the Atoms' biggest fans was noticeably missing. Tom Vogt, brother of JV head coach Rick Vogt, passed away this summer in a motorcycle accident. The brothers grew up with the game of basketball. Tom was Rick's biggest fan and a regular in the stands with his wife Ashley and son Jordan in tow. Rick knew Friday's home opener would be difficult without his brother behind the bench. To pay tribute to his biggest fan, the Atoms hosted a benefit that night to help raise funds for Tom's wife and son. The event raised over $3,000 for the Thomas R. Vogt Memorial Fund, which was established to help with living expenses and as a college fund for his young Jordan.
