Three high school hoops teams bringing State Titles back to Central New York

Jordan Roland led Westhill to a State Title

After a great day in the Final Four, Section 3 basketball teams still shined in their State Title games on Saturday.

Jordan Roland had the hot hand for Westhill Saturday night as they defeated Olean 93-55 for the Class B State Championship. Roland had 7 three-pointers and 41 points on the night to lead the Warriors while his teammate Tyler Reynolds followed with 38 points.

The Cicero-North Syracuse girls, on the other hand, did not have the hot hand on Saturday night as they fell to Ossining 74-59 in the Class AA title game. Samantha Roberts led the way for the North Stars with 22 points.

After 31 years going without a state title, the Utica-Notre Dame Lady Jugglers won the Class B State Basketball title Saturday over Bishop Kearney 71-36. Emily Durr, who entered the game 7 points behind former Cicero-North Syracuse star Breanna Stewart for the Section III girlâ??s all-time scoring record, had 29 points for the Lady Jugglers, setting the new Section III scoring mark. In five years, Durr scored 2,389 points. Anari Harris added 17 points for Utica-Notre Dame.

Over on the Boys side, the New York Mills Marauders defeated Coleman Catholic, 57-50, in an overtime thriller for the Class D Boys State Championship. Nick Comenale led New York Mills with 22 points followed by Andrew Surprenant with 16 points.

The Jamesville-Dewitt Lady Red Rams would not have the success of Utica-Notre Dame and New York Mills. In the Class A Girls State Championship, the Lady Red Rams fell to Pittsford-Southerland 57-41. Alyssa Robens led Jamesville-Dewitt with 14 points while Meg Hair added 12 points.
