Toyota High School Athlete of the Week: Liverpool's Cooper Chaffee

Liverpool senior center Cooper Chaffee has scored 40 points in the last two games, helping the Warriors advance to Regionals this weekend.

The Liverpool Warriors are Section III, Class AA champions for the first time in 20 years after defeating Henninger in last weekend's finale, which punched their ticket to the Regional Final this weekend.

A big reason for Liverpool's late-season push is due, in large part, to senior center Cooper Chaffee.

Chaffee was able to score a game-high 21 points in Sunday's win over Henninger. In the game before that, the senior went for 19 points, combining for 40 points in Liverpool's last two sectional games.

He will be needed more than ever on Saturday, as the Warriors take on Section II winner Bethlehem at 5 p.m. from the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.

"We felt like we were bigger than them, we could really get the ball inside and attack," Chaffee proclaimed. "They couldn't match up with us. So we got the ball in, got a couple baskets and drew some fouls -- I think that was the biggest part of the game.

"It's just incredible," he continued, "It puts Liverpool Basketball at the top every year."

In terms of taking on Bethlehem, Chaffee gave his thoughts on what he expects this weekend.

"Keep attacking and don't be afraid. We're going to face some really tough competition, but I feel like we can beat them."
