Toyota High School Athlete: Solvay pitcher Lauren Nichols
Solvay senior pitcher Lauren Nichols has been on a different level during her final season with the Bearcats.
Aside from dominating in the pitcher's circle, Nichols is batting over .500 from the batter's box.
Solvay is enjoying a 13-2 start to the season, due in large part to its star senior.
"We've been really successful this season because we do have really great team chemistry since we didn't graduate anyone last year," she said. "So we've been playing together for a while now. I think I'm doing pretty well, but I don't know, every year I seem to be getting better as a hitter and a player overall, with my strikeouts and hitting."
"I've been very blessed in my last 28 years," Solvay head coach Phil Merrell said. "I've had a bunch of great players and a bunch of really fine pitchers. Lauren's worked very hard at her craft. Her mechanics are good -- they're sound. Since the time she was a little girl, she's been pitching, and she's reaping the fruits of her labor now."
Nichols has already committed continue her softball career at Le Moyne College next year.
