      Watch: Section 3 football teams punch tickets to finals, soccer team take Section 3 crowns

      Football teams punched their tickets to the Section 3 finals, while soccer teams were crowned champions on Friday night.

      Herkimer and Westmoreland battled in the Class D final, a rematch of the Class C semifinals in 2008. This time, the Magicians outlasted the Bulldogs, pulling out the 29-20 victory to make it to the Carrier Dome Class D final.The Magicians fell down 7-0 after Tyler Deveans scored from a yard out. But Herkimer thundered back with an Austin Mills 58 yard touchdown run, followed up by a two point conversion to put the Magicians up 8-7. Mills would score again to make it 14-7, with Herkimer eventually pulling out the 29-20 victory. Herkimer will play Sandy Creek in the Class D final in the Carrier Dome.

      The Class A Section III Football matchup is set, and it??s a battle for North Country supremacy. Indian River will meet Carthage next weekend at the Carrier Dome. The Carthage Comets upset the 2nd seeded and previously unbeaten East Syracuse-Minoa Spartans 43-36 on Friday night in Fulton. As expected, the game was a shootout as that score would indicate but Carthage used a 29-point second half outburst to overcome a 21-14 halftime deficit to the Spartans.It should be known that star ES-M quarterback was hobbled with a leg injury throughout the game, but still gave it a very tough effort with a touchdown pass. Jose Sanchez had 4 touchdown runs for ES-M. On the victorious side, Carthage signal-caller Bailey Wilkinson had four rushing scores as well. Indian River defeated Jamesville-Dewitt 31-14 on Friday night in Watertown. In girls soccer action, Cicero North Syracuse defeated Baldwinsville 3-0 to win the Class AA Section 3 title down at SUNY Cortland.

      "We definitely earned it -- I think it's kind of like, we worked so hard the whole year and I think we deserved it. I was ecstatic as everyone was," Stephanie Liberati, C-NS forward said.

      In Class B, rivals Marcellus and Westhill battled for the title, with the Mustangs pulling out the 3-1 win to take the Class B Section 3 title.
