The West Genesee Girls Lacrosse team is celebrating a State Championship tonight after a 9-5 win over Section V's Penfield in the Class A state title game at SUNY-Cortland. The Wildcats got off to a quick start, leading 4-1 early on, but were forced to dig a little deeping in the second half when Penfield fought back to tie the game 5-5. Erica Geremia was more than up for the challenge, leading the way with four goals, while Emily Tripodi contributed with two goals and four assist, helping to earn the West Genesee girls their first title since 2008.
"T his is the purest felling of excitement I've ever had in my entire life," says Tripodi , who was also named tournament MVP , "this means everything to us. It's really what we worked for all season."

This is the sixth State Championship for the Wildcat girls. Their first was back in 2001, what was the beginning of a three-peat. West Genny hopes today's Championship win can be the beginning of great success for years to come.
" W e are one team." says Geremia, "we have worked together for all these years, we have 16 seniors and we've been working to ge ther since we were 7 years old, and since then we've been one big family on and off the field. It's been awseome. "
" T hese guys worked so hard for so long for this, " says head coach Bob Elmer, "they wanted it so bad. And to see it finally happen, it's great."
