As West Genesee prepares for the 2012 season this week, the memory is still fresh from one of the most entertaining Section III Title games we've seen in a while. The Wildcats beat the CBA Brothers 57-35 at the Carrier Dome back in November, capping off what was also a very exciting season of big plays and big wins. The goal coming into this season is to repeat as Section III Champions, and go all the way in States.
"I mean we're the team to beat obviously," says West Genesee Head Coach Joe Corley, "we won the whole thing last year so there's a target on out backs. The guys are excited about it, they're up for the challenge and they're working real hard."
dset this year is to come out and prove we can do it again, " says senior wide receiver Ted Glesener, that it's not just a one year wonder, we can come out and repeat the same thing. We're all exited for the season."
And while the Wildcats, like just about every other school, lots some key seniors to graduation, they have plenty of experience left, and a hungry younger core who witnessed last year what it takes to win.
e've got a lot of new faces, but we've got a lot of returning guys too",
says Corley, "kids who played last year and who are great leaders, so we have that balance of leadership. At the same time we have some new faces who are eager to step in and get the job done, so it's a good little mix."
