Toyota High School Game of the Week: B-ville breaks in new field
It was a perfect night for Baldwinsville's home-opener against West Genesee, and there was plenty to cheer about in B'ville.
Before the game there was a ribbon cutting as they unveiled their new synthetic turf field.
There was also a ceremony to re-dedicate the field to veterans of World Wars I and II.
The Bees nest was buzzing when it came time for kickoff.
In the first quarter QB Benjamin Dywer handed it off to senior Jack Buis who found the outside and got the scoring started.
West Genesee followed up by throwing an interception, and it was Buis again, now on the other side of the ball.
In the second quarter Dwyer gave it off to Elijah Edmonds-Reed for the score making it 14-0 Bees.
West Genesee did answer - QB Liam Barry threw a perfect pass to Marcus Hudgins who fought his way into the end zone bringing the score 14-7.
However, Baldwinsville's offense was just too much for the Wilcats - much to the pleasure of Coach Sanfilippo the Bees get their first win on the new turf.
"The kids did a great job. Genny is a great football team. It's nice not to be dirty and have mud up to your ankles, you know, just a good night," Sanfilippo said.
Looking ahead the Bees get ready for a tough game against Utica Proctor next week.
