2017 SU Football Spring Showcase watches Orange squad earn 14-0 victory
The Syracuse University football program held its annual Spring Showcase on Saturday morning.
The Carrier Dome hosted fans of all ages, which included a youth camp and autograph session following the scrimmage.
The Orange squad came away with the win, 14-0.
Junior quarterback Eric Dungey completed 8-of-14 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. The lone touchdown arrived courtesy of receiver Devin Butler in the corner of the end zone, lifting the crowd to its feet.
Senior safety Antwan Cordy returned an interception for a touchdown as well. It was somewhat of a triumphant moment for Cordy who returns this season after an injury sidelined him for the final 10 games of the 2016 regular season.
"Those practices that we had this spring -- it was very physical and it was great," Dungey said during the post game press conference. "I think that was where the most work was put in. I mean, the Spring Showcase is great. It gets you in front of the fans, but a lot of the work was really done behind closed doors."
"The coaches look at things differently," SU head coach Dino Babers said. "As long as we're progressing and we're moving along -- it's not my first rodeo -- it's my third time that I've done this. I know what I'm looking for and I think these guys are moving in the right direction. I think we should all understand what kind of schedule we have. 11 out of 12 opponents were bowl teams. Toughest schedule in the country, based off a second year rebuild. That's no joke. Google it -- google it. We're not making this stuff up to make it sound good.
"That being said, we'll line up every Saturday and we'll play," he added. "Wherever the chips fall, they'll fan. We're looking forward to it."
SU fans will not have a chance to watch the Orange again until Friday, September 1, when Central Connecticut State visits the Carrier Dome for the 2017 season opener.
