Former SU star Brittney Sykes named WNBA Rookie of the Month
Brittney Sykes, a former Syracuse University Women's Basketball star, is making a name for herself in the WNBA.
Sykes was named the league's Rookie of the Month (for July) due to her outstanding performances, leading all rookies for the month with an average of 17.8 points per game, which ranks her third overall in the Eastern Conference and eighth overall for the league.
Her double-digit point game streak was extended to 13 games after scoring double figures in all 11 July games. Sykes' first 20-point game came on July 18 when she led the Atlanta Dream to victory over the San Antonio Stars. Her highest point contribution to the Dream was when she scored a career-high 27 points in an overtime loss to the Washington Mystics.
So far, Sykes has been averaging 12.2 points and four rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. She has started in 12 of the 23 games so far for Atlanta, who is 10-13 on the season.

July 2 vs. New York: Finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in an 81-72 win over the Liberty.
July 18 vs. San Antonio: Scored 20 points (9-of-10 free throws) in 26 minutes in an 88-75 victory against the San Antonio Stars.
July 25 vs. Phoenix: Scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in a 99-91 overtime win over the Mercury.
