Beak & Skiff named top orchard in the country by USA Today readers
LAFAYETTE, N.Y. —
A local apple orchard beloved by many Central New Yorkers is also feeling the love from a national crowd.
Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards in Lafayette was named the number one Apple Orchard in the Country by the "10Best USA Today reader’s poll."
The local apple orchard was nominated by a panel of experts and selected by readers in an online contest.
“It’s humbling when you think that your family business is the winner against some pretty impressive operations across the country. We are fortunate to have an amazing staff and they are a huge driver of what makes us great so this is really their award,” spokesperson Danielle Fleckenstein said in a release.
Here's what USA Today had top say about Beek & Skiff Apple Orchards:
This family-owned orchard has been growing apples since onion farmer George Skiff and dairy farmer Andrew Beak joined forces in 1911 to plant apples on a hillside along Rte. 20. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, Gala, McIntosh, Ginger Gold and Paula Red are just a few of the varieties offered from late August through late October. Live music events, Cider Fests, Orchard Runs and a Kids' Magic Show add entertainment to the apple picking.
Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards’ also won the award in 2015.
The orchard beat out other top orchards all across the county to win. You can see the rest of the "10Best" finalists here.
