Inspiring: Business installs A/C unit for elderly woman living with a broken one
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- A woman in Danville is living a bit more comfortably thanks to a local business.
GoDocs Mobile Practice, a walk-in medical clinic that also provides house calls, mobile x-rays, and ultrasounds, said their staff went to see a homebound patient for a sick visit on Monday and found her sitting in a home with no air conditioning.
The doctors have been taking care of Doris Veale's health over the last several months.
Monday was marked as the hottest day of the year so far, reaching temperatures as high as 95 degrees.
The staff said the woman told them the A/C unit quit working days ago and she didn't know how to fix it.
They said she was sitting in a home with inside temperatures at more than 100 degrees, but she was still all smiles.
GoDocs said they called Comfort Cooling Heating and Air to see if they could help with the A/C issue.
"Somebody without A/C right now, and the weather so hot and so humid, I just didn't feel like I could leave her like that and know about it without doing anything so, I got my guys to meet them over here and Micah from GoDocs was nice enough to buy the A/C, met them over here and installed it for her," said Branden Nix, the VP of Comfort Cooling Heating and Air.
Veale said she can breath easier now that she has a new ac unit.
"Very thankful, I feel very fortunate that they cared to even come to your home to give you a chance, to have some things you need," she said. "That is the most thankful gift you can get to keep cool."
"The world we live in right now is so fast paced that when we see somebody in need, we need to help them out," Nix added.
Go Docs is also working on getting her a motorized wheelchair to help her get around.
Both Go Docs and Comfort Cooling Heating and Air said this was a kind gesture and hope other people in the community will follow in suit.
