12-year-old boy charged for Syracuse armed robbery; second suspect sought, police say
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
Syracuse Police say they've arrested a 12-year-old boy and are looking for a second suspect in an armed robbery at a convenience store in the city.
Police say it happened just before midnight on Tuesday at Ze Mart, located at 2030 S. Salina Street. The victim there told officers two males came up to the counter and one pulled out a large handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded cash. While one suspect held the gun to the victim, the other came behind the counter and took money from the victim and put it in the bag.
The suspect with the gun then grabbed the bag and ran out of the store. When the second suspect tried to follow, an employee chased after him and a responding officer took eventually took them into custody on the 100 block of McKinley Avenue, according to police.
The suspect that was caught is a 12-year-old male, according to police. He was charged with first-degree robbery and petit larceny and released to a family member on a juvenile appearance ticket, police said.
The other suspect is still sought. He is described as a young black male last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
