SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Jahkim Robinson, now 15, pleaded guilty to charges filed against him in the murder of Eva Fuld, 84, at her Grant Village apartment in Syracuse in January 2021.
Robinson pleaded guilty to Burglary in the 1st degree, Robbery in the 1st degree, and two counts of felony murder, according to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.
"I’ve been prosecuting homicide cases in this county for 40 years and some of the most egregious are those committed against the elderly," Fitzpatrick said.
Court documents said Robinson, who was 14 at the time knocked on Fuld's door. When she answered, they forced their way inside, where they stole credit cards, insurance cards, wallets, and keys.
Investigators said Fuld was stabbed 43 times and beaten to death during the home invasion.
Robinson faces a minimum of 5 years to life and a maximum of 9 years to life, according to the Onondaga County District Attorney's office.
"Technically he could be out when he’s 19. That’s the reality of the criminal justice system in New York," Fitzpatrick said.
The district attorney said the sentencing will likely happen within the next couple of weeks. While encouraging the judge for the maximum sentence, he said he will accept whatever the judgment is.
Fuld worked for more than 30 years as a teacher at Westmoreland High School.
Fitzpatrick said he will encourage Fuld's family to reach out to the parole board whenever Robinson is up to have them consider the crime when considering releasing him on parole.
Her former students say she taught French and Spanish. When news of her death broke, alumni shared their memories of Fuld on a Facebook page.
One former student called her a "Very shy, timid lady who wouldn't hurt a fly." Another former student wrote, "I remember thinking of her as a little bird. She did teach me some Spanish despite my resistance."
Public records show Fuld retired as a teacher in New York State in 1991.
