Syracuse Police say a 16-year-old was killed in an overnight shooting on John St.

Police responded at 10:35 p.m. Monday to a shooting call, and when they arrived at 165 John St. Apt. 3, they found 16-year-old Antonio Gullotto with a gunshot wound to the upper part of his body.

Gullotto was pronounced dead at the scene. Syracuse City Schools tells CNYCentral Gullotto was a student at Henniger High School, but they're not sure whether he was an active student.

Gullotto's mother, Christena Hutchcraft spoke with CNYCentral Tuesday and said she believes her son was killed in retaliation for robbing a convenience store.

“I just want justice for my son. My son deserves so much better than this," she said. "And the person that did this I just hope they understand what they took from my family.”

Just before noon Tuesday, our CNYCentral crew witnessed police forcibly entering Syracuse Grocery & Deli, which is across the street from the apartment where Gullotto was killed.

Syracuse police and prosecutors would not comment on Gullotto's mothers claims.

The shooting is in the same building where 12-year-old James Springer, III lived. He was shot and killed in October in the 100 block of John St.

Police say Gullotto's killer was wearing all dark clothing and have no other description at this time.
