12-year-old boy dies from injuries after being shot in Syracuse

12-year-old dies after a shooting on John Street.

At approximately 9:35 p.m. Syracuse Police responded to Park and E. Division Streets on a shooting call. As officers were en route, they were notified that the victim was being transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in a personal vehicle.

The investigation revealed that the victims were in the 100 block of John Street when they were shot.

Police say a 12-year-old child arrived at St. Joseph’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen area. He was transferred to Upstate University Hospital where he died early Thursday morning, police said.

Police initially reported the victim to be a 9-year-old, but later corrected the victim's age to 12.

A woman in her 30’s also suffered a “graze” wound in this incident, and was transported to the Hospital in a personal vehicle. Her injury is not believed to be life threatening, police say.

There were several additional calls to 911 reporting shots fired in the area of Park Street and E. Division Street.

It is very early in this investigation, and Officers and Detectives are currently investigating this incident. Additional information will be released when it becomes available. There is no suspect information at this time.
