A man from Mexico, Oswego County was arrested Saturday, accused of tampering with candy given out on Halloween.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jeffrey C. Beardslee, 58, of Mexico. He’s charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor.

Authorities say the arrest stems from an investigation where he allegedly tampered with Halloween candy in the Town of Mexico.

On Halloween night, the Oswego County District Attorney issued an urgent warning about two separate reports DOTS candy boxes given out as treats in Mexico had been tampered with. At the time, District Attorney Greg Oakes indicated the boxes had been opened, filled with rocks, then resealed.

Beardslee is scheduled to appear in Town of Mexico Court on November 27th to face the charge against him.
