Officials are investigating a suspicious death report in the city of Auburn.

According to the Auburn City Police, officials were dispatched to 59 N. Fulton St. around 7:28 a.m. Sunday for reports of a deceased person lying in the front lawn at the residence. The victim had been found by a passerby at that time, authorities said.

An investigation found that the victim, 39-year-old Joshua Taro, had suffered some injuries consistent with an assault. The body was then sent for a preliminary autopsy.

Police later learned that Taro had been involved in a fight earlier Sunday morning in the area of Jitz's Tavern on Franklin St. Interviews and surveillance images confirmed that information, according to authorities.

The cause of Taro's death has not yet been determined, but police say initial findings do not appear to indicate that his injuries resulted in his death. Further tests will now be conducted.

The Auburn Police is requesting that anyone who has information regarding this incident or who may have been in the area of Jitz's Tavern between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Sunday to call 315-258-9880 or 315-253-3231.
