The State of New York ranks is one of the nine states with the highest average gas price. Yet Onondaga County has one of the lowest prices. Syracuse leads the way in low prices with $2.14. Fayetteville, Camillus, and other surroundings towns hover just above that mark.

On Thursday night, the Speedway in Fayetteville saw hundreds of drivers swooping in to take advantage of the low prices. "It's great," said Zack Mitchell. "It really saves you a lot of money."

Western and Central New York AAA said a surplus of oil in the U.S. and globally is driving prices at the pump to the lowest levels in two years.

This time last year, Syracuse area drivers were dishing out about an extra forty cents for every gallon of gas they pumped into their cars. Some drivers said it's enough savings to rethink how much time they spend on the road.

While drivers want the cheap gas to continue, AAA warns that OPEC and Russia's announcement to reduce crude oil production by more than a million barrels a day could make prices rise in 2019.
