Body of missing Pennsylvania fisherman recovered from Lake Ontario

Oswego County

The body of a Pennsylvania man who had been missing since Saturday evening after his boat sank in Lake Ontario has been recovered, according to the Oswego County Sheriff's Office.

Mark Deiter, of Walnuttort, Pennsylvania, was recovered from the lake near Sunset Bay Park in the town of Scriba around 1:42 p.m. Monday following a search by the Oswego County Sheriff's Office and State Police. Deiter was found in the cuddy of his boat, which was located at the bottom of the lake about three-quarters of a mile from shore in about 100 feet of water.

Deiter was one of three passengers on a boat on Lake Ontario that sank at 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Sunset Bay Park. Two of the fishermen jumped from the boat and used flotation devices and a cooler to float in the water until they were spotted and rescued around 7 p.m. by other fishermen. Deiter was last seen when the boat became fully submerged in the lake.

Numerous searches were conducted by officials throughout the last few days.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
