SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A car submerged in Onondaga Creek overnight was pulled out of the water Wednesday afternoon.
Onondaga County dispatchers say around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night the car went off the roadway into the creek near Ballantyne Road. The car then traveled down the creek before finally stopping near the Southside Academy.
The Big Red Towing Company says the water was moving too swiftly Tuesday night for crews to remove the car. They returned to the scene the next morning to reassess the situation, and with the help of Syracuse firefighters were able to pull out the car.
The process of removing the car took about two and a half hours to complete.
Syracuse Police say the car's brakes went out. Fire officials say two people made it out of the car safely and crews were able to rescue them from the banks of the creek.
