Congressman Katko not running for A.G., wants to focus on CNY
Congressman John Katko has put a stop to rumors circling around over his possible run for State Attorney General.
A New York Daily News article raised the possibility that the Republican, who has a record both in Congress and as a federal prosecutor, would run against Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in 2018.
However, the congressman is officially saying he will not run for AG, and is instead choosing to continue his focus on representing Central New York.
The congressman's office released the following statement:
Given his background as a federal prosecutor and record in congress, Rep. Katko has been approached. He is honored to be considered but is focused on representing Central New York in Congress and will seek reelection in NY-24 in 2018.
According to a federal campaign finance report, Congressman Katko has raised more than $467,000 for his 2018 campaign.
