Court documents: Murder victim's ex helped suspected shooter rent car to commit crime

Charlene Childers and Tim Dean were arrested in Wayne County and Moore County, Texas respectively.

Court records reveal new details in the deaths of a Sodus couple and the man accused of killing them.

Investigators say Charlene Childers, 25, conspired with her husband Timothy Dean, 32, to kill her ex-boyfriend, Joshua Niles.

Niles, 28, and his girlfriend Amber Washburn, 24, were gunned down outside their home in Sodus on October 22.

According to a criminal complaint filed in in Sodus Town Court, Childers, who was living in Texas, helped Dean rent a vehicle to drive from Texas to New York where he killed Niles.

The Wayne County Sheriff writes in the court complaint that Dean shot Niles.

Sheriff Barry Virts announced in a news conference Monday night that Childers was charged with conspiracy in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Dean faces charges of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held in Texas on unrelated charges. Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts says the extradition process which would bring him to New York is underway.

Childers was being held Wayne County Jail as a “Fugitive from Justice” due to pending criminal charges in the State of Texas, according to Wayne Co. Sheriff Barry Virts.

"It's our belief Dean pulled the trigger," Sheriff Virts said during a news conference Monday night.

Virts said the Texas Rangers, Texas DPS, local law enforcement in Texas and the FBI assisted in their investigation.

Sheriff Virtis says the investigation is ongoing, anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 315-946-9711.

Childers was arraigned in Sodus and is being held on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
