Crews investigating fire at Ithaca apartment complex

Crews are investigating fire in Ithaca

Authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon fire in an apartment in Ithaca.

According to City of Ithaca officials, Tompkins County 911 received multiple calls around 1:15 p.m. Sunday for a fire with a person trapped inside at 14 Abbott Lane in Ithaca.

Police and fire units arrived on the scene and found smoke coming from the back of the multi-unit complex, authorities said.

Firefighters stretched a hose inside and put out the fire and didn't find anyone inside the building. The fire was contained to the original apartment.

Crews had to remain on the scene for about an hour to fight hot spots.

The Cayuga Heights Fire Department stood by at Central Fire Station with off duty Ithaca Firefighters to cover other calls.
