Demolition underway at Former DeWitt dance club

DEWITT, N.Y. — For years it was the place to go to dance the night away, but now it will go into the history books with help from the wrecking ball.

The former Uncle Sam's night club has sat vacant for years at the corner of Bridge Street and Erie Boulevard and on Monday it began to come down.

Contento's Demolition Company, out of Cortland, will be the ones tearing down the building.

Owner Grazi Zazzara says the building could be down as early as the end of the week. Zazzara bought the property in 2008 for $500,000 and has been wanting to tear it down for awhile now.

His hope is that tearing down the building will make room for redevelopment and attract a chain restaurant to the site.
