Detectives searching for suspect in Syracuse assault

Syracuse Police are continuing their search for a suspect who threatened a woman with a knife in the 300 block of Hopper Road.

The victim was walking on Hopper Road towards the entrance of the Rand Tract Nature Area around 7 a.m. Saturday, when she was approached from behind by a male armed with a knife, police said.

The victim was able to break free from the suspect's hold and run to her home where she called police, officers said.

According to police, the victim sustained minor injuries during the incident, and was treated at Community Hospital. Police say the victim is under 16 years old.

According to police, the victim described the suspect as a white male in his 50s, approximately six feet tall. He had noticeable wrinkles on his face, discolored teeth, and was wearing a white or gray colored zippered hooded sweatshirt, and a green colored mask that covered the lower portion of his face. The victim said she didn't recognize him.

He was last seen running into a wooded area nearby, police said.

A red colored pick up truck with a cap, was seen in the area at the time of the incident, but according to police it is unknown if it is involved at this time.

The suspect has not yet been located after an extensive search of the area, including the use of police K-9 units, police said.
