Possible break in Sodus double murder investigation

Charlene Childers and Tim Dean were arrested in Wayne County and Moore County, Texas respectively.

The ex-girlfriend of a Sodus man shot and killed last week has been arrested in Wayne County. CNYCentral has learned her current husband, a former police chief in Texas, was also taken into custody in that state.

Investigators said Timothy Dean, 32, and Charlene Childers, 25, are facing child injury charges stemming from a May 2018 incident in Texas.

Family and friends tell us Childers has two children with Joshua Niles, 28, who was shot to death in Sodus along with his girlfriend, Amber Washburn, 24, last Monday.

The Texas Rangers arrested Timothy Dean, who is the former police chief of Sunray, Texas, and charged him with a count of injury to a child and transported him to the Moore County jail. He’s being held on $1 million bond.

Childers is currently in the Wayne County Jail as a “Fugitive from Justice” due to pending criminal charges in the State of Texas, according to Wayne Co. Sheriff Barry Virts.

Childers is being held without bail.

“Our investigation regarding the Monday, October 22nd double homicide in the Village of Sodus has and will continue. I have no other comments at this time as I do not want to compromise our ongoing investigative efforts," Sheriff Virts told our news partner, The Times of Wayne County.

Childers is scheduled to return to court on November 27.
