The Syracuse Fire Dept. responds to a number of “False Alarms” each week and that costs money and resources. However, as NBC3 found out, further investigation is revealing that these “False Alarms” are actually saving lives because of how the department is now handling these.
Often the call reveals a fault in a multi-family housing unit that could affect a number of families. Dan Messineo talks with Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds about how the way the department is responding to false alarms in a positive way.
“They find an array of different issues that sometimes there might not be an issue and that would be considered a false alarm, in my opinion, or an honest mistake, but a lot of the times when we go we find some issues.”
