SAUGERTIES, NY (WRGB) — The father, mother and grandfather of the child who was found hidden under a staircase in Saugerties was expected to face a judge on Wednesday.
Kimberly Shultis, Kurt Shultis Jr., and Kurt Shultis Sr, were expected to appear in Saugerties Town Court, Wednesday, April 27th. But all three appearances were adjourned.
This comes after Police located the young girl after executing a search warrant back on Valentine's Day at a home on Fawn Road. It was there police say they found Paislee Shultis hidden under the stairs with her non-custodial mother, identified as Kimberly Cooper.
Investigators say that Paislee was reported missing back in 2019, at the time thought to have been in the Saugerties area with her non-custodial parents.
Investigators say when the detective shined a light into a crack on a staircase that seemed odd, he found what appeared to be a blanket. After removing several of the steps, the child and her accused abductor were found in a small room, secreted under the stairs.
Kirk Shultis Jr., 32, and Kirk Shultis Sr., 57, were charged with felony custodial interference and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Saugerties police chief tells CBS6 that the family was in Spencer NY, in Tioga County, investigators believe that they came to Saugerties after losing custody of Paislee and hid in a home on Fawn Road. A home police say belonged to the child's grandfather, Kirk Shultis Sr.
The court did not give a reason for the adjournment.
All three co-defendants are due back May 25th.
