FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) -- A contingent of soldiers in the 10th Mountain Division are departing from Fort Drum in northern New York to South Korea for a nine-month deployment.

A deployment ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon for members of the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Fort Drum officials say the last time the cavalry regiment was in Korea was 2015-2016, when they flew Kiowa Warrior.

For the upcoming rotation in South Korea the unit will fly Apache Longbow helicopters as it supports military operations in the Republic of Korea.

The regiment recently completed a major training exercise alongside National Guard units to prepare for the Korea deployment.
