Emergency crews responded to an early morning fire in South Onondaga Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around 1:20 a.m. on Ironside Rd. off of Route 80.

The South Onondaga fire chief said four people were inside the home. All four were able to get out safely.

Fire Chief Erik Nelson said the fire happened in the back of the home and this was an electrical fire.

Investigators are still looking for the exact cause of the fire.

One family member called 911 and the family woke up to the fire.

"They woke up, heard the smoke detectors going off. Fortunately they do have smoke detectors. They had just changed them this week so that woke them up and they were all able to get out safe," Nelson said.

Multiple fire crews responded and have remained on scene.

Chief Nelson said icy conditions made their response more difficult.

A cause is still under investigation.
