Globetrotters DJ charged with inappropriately touching young girl
ALBANY- Albany police arrested 32 year-old Jon Buckner for allegedly walking up to a 14 year-old girl and inappropriately touching her. Police say this happened at a Harlem Globetrotters event at the Times Union Center in February.
Police say Buckner is from Georgia, and was working as a disc jockey with the Globetrotters at the event.
They say the girl told a parent what happened right after the incident. That parent then told police.
"The allegations were based off of a very brave young girl who came forward and reported this incident to police. She certainly did the right thing," says Albany Police spokesperson Steve Smith.
Smith says that helped them start the investigation, which ultimately led to detectives arresting Buckner in Syracuse.
"It doesn't matter what type of event it is. There's no place, whether it's at a family friendly event or anywhere else in this community that men can inappropriately touch any young girl or woman,” Smith said.
Buckner was taken back to Albany and arraigned this morning in Albany City Criminal Court. He's now facing charges of sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. The Times Union Center declined to comment. The Harlem Globetrotters responded in an email, saying they're fully cooperating with investigators, and wouldn't comment further.
